Homestead Event at the Ranch

Howdy, friends! Did everyone survive the rollercoaster of weather we had this past week/weekend? One minute it's all sunshine and warmth, and the next, we're bundling up against snow and wind. Ah, the joys of springtime in Wyoming, right?
First things first, we've got some major gratitude to dish out. A huge thank you to everyone who braved the elements and joined us for our homesteading event this weekend! We had folks coming from all corners of the area, including some adventurous souls from Powell and Deaver. And can we talk about the kiddos? We had at least 15 little troopers and their families brave the elements with us. Snow? No problem. Mud? Bring it on!
These kids dove headfirst into helping us with our heifer calves, and let me tell you, it was a sight to behold. It's all part of our heifer development program in action, gearing up for the Spring of 2026 when these heifers will be ready to rock and roll. But here's the real kicker – a bunch of these families have little ones who are itching to learn the ropes of owning their own family milk cow. In the future, these kids will have the chance to apprentice with us, learning all about caring for and milking a cow. And, once this year’s group of heifers calve in the Spring of 2026, we'll be milking them and getting them ready to find new homes. We even have 2 from last year that will be available and calving next April.
So, if you've ever dreamed of having your very own family milk cow, now's your chance! Get your name on our list for 2025 and join us on this exciting journey. With our heifer development program, these kids are getting a head start on bonding with their future bovine buddies. Plus, with a calf on their side, they'll even get some beef for the family. Talk about a win-win!
As for Todd, aka "The Worm Guy," well, let's just say he never saw that nickname coming! But hey, when you're the master of all things vermiculture and you've got a bunch of wriggly little friends to show off, the title just fits, right? Todd wowed us all with his wormy wisdom, teaching us the ins and outs of getting started with vermiculture. Who knew playing with worms could be so fascinating?
And let's not forget about the feast! We had a mouthwatering spread of homemade dishes, topped off with some delicious Diamond S roast beef. The food was incredible, but the real magic was in the sense of community and camaraderie that filled the air.
As we’ve wrapped up this snowy spring weekend, we're already dreaming about our next gathering. So keep your eyes peeled, folks – we've got plenty more homesteading ideas and knowledge sharing in store, and we can't wait to share it with you!
Until next time, stay warm and keep homesteading!
